The “I Messed Up” Book Tag

I messed up book tag

I’ve been tagged by the lovely Melissa @ BookNerdMomo, so thanks a bunch! Please check out her blog if you haven’t already! ❤

Let’s see how many “mess-ups” I’ve got under my bookish belt!!

A character appearance that you misread or imagined differently

I had to think long and hard about this because for a moment I was thinking, I’ve never done that before BECAUSE I’M AWESOME. Turns out, I have. (I’m still awesome though 😉 )

Dimitri in Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. *face palm* For the longest time, I’ve imagined him with short dark brown hair, but apparently he has long brown hair that goes to his shoulders. I guess I forgot that little detail after marathoning that series at least five times. I kid you not.

oops

A character name that you’ve been pronouncing wrong

SHAHRZAD FROM THE WRATH & THE DAWN BY RENEE AHDIEH!! I STILL DON’T KNOW HOW TO PRONOUNCE HER NAME AND I HAVE NO IDEA IF I’M SAYING HER NAME RIGHT!!! And while we’re at it, I didn’t know how to pronounce Chaol from the Throne of Glass series or Aphrodite from the Percy Jackson series until I found the pronunciation guide and someone told me. I’m very good at murdering names. 😂

I bless all the authors for their creative ways in explaining how to pronounce the name of their book characters. On another note, I actually love coming across different names as I read because who wants five million characters named Sloane or Ben for that matter?!

An overused trope that is your guilty pleasure

Psh. I don’t have any guilty pleasure tropes. Nope. Not at all. Hate ’em. Can’t stand ’em… Okay, I have too many…like way too many.

I love the classic road trip trope where the characters fall in love while on the road, the forbidden romance trope, the best friend’s brother/sister trope, the best friends with benefits to lovers trope, any sort of twist on the pretend relationship storyline where the two fall in love in the midst of pretending, the bad boy/player character and the sassy, sarcastic badass heroine (is that a trope?).

Shall I go on?

I-have-no-shame

A cliché character that you like better on screen than reading about

One sentence: The book is always better.

(But I do have soft spots for the romantic male leads in Nicholas Sparks movies. You’re only going to hear that from me once.)

A word/phrase you learned because of its use in a book

Holy alien babies. 🙌

Katy Swartz. Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I seriously love that girl. ❤ Go read this series.

freaking out

Have you ever not read or completed a required-reading book for school?

Nope. I make it a mission to finish every single book required. I actually love reading Shakespeare and classics as school gives me a reason to actually read them. I also don’t like not knowing what the teacher is talking about when I’m in class, so I like having the reading experience so I’m fully prepared. #girlscout

Have you ever skipped (or wanted to) a chapter from the point of view of a character you weren’t interested in?

God yes. All the time. I always end up reading it, but I definitely found myself skimming. The recent character was Tariq from The Wrath & The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh.

Have you ever cancelled social plans to read a book?

Um…probably. Do I remember? No. But I probably have and I’m totally going to do it in the future.

sorry not sorry

I tag:

If you’ve done this tag already, you don’t have to do it again 🙂

I’m embarrassingly behind tags right now, but I see you! I have not forgotten you!!! (I’m also behind in reviews but we aren’t mentioning that) I’ll get them done ASAP.

What are your guilty pleasure tropes?? Please tell me we share some of the same ones because that is all kinds of awesome! Who would rather have a night in with books and food or a night out? What names have you noticed that keep being repeated in books???

  1. I’m totally with you on skipping/wanting to skip chapters from the POV of characters you don’t like as much. I don’t skip because I don’t want to miss anything in the plot, but I DEFINITELY “skim,” haha!

    • Hahaha there should be a book on the art of skimming! 😜 it’s so hard to balance between POVs that matter and those that don’t. I’m the same; I really don’t want to miss anything important even if I don’t like the character

  2. Thanks for tagging me! I love all of those tropes you mentioned. I think my most favourite is the love/hate enemies to lovers trope. It’s addicting!

    • OHMYGOD I LOVE THAT ONE SO MUCH. It’s the BEST. The angst, the tension, the development of their relationship. Most of the time we get great sassy banter and comebacks which are hilarious!

      And you’re welcome 🙂

  3. I love the phrase “Holy alien babies” too 😂! I so need a Lux series reread soon. And I love all of those tropes too, definitely no shame for me either. I think one of my all time favorites is the brother’s best friend and sister romance trope. I was rereading Kaleidoscope Hearts a while back that is my favorite with that trope.
    Great post! 😊

    • I loved Katy’s quips! Those books are everything. 👌 Kaleidoscope Hearts was such a good novel!! Definitely one of my favourites in that trope as well! It pulled at my heart strings and Oliver was a smexy doctor! 😍😍 oh I’m definitely going to reread that one! Have you read Paper Hearts, the sequel to KH? It’s really good too!! Oh man, I NEED TO REREAD THOSE BOOKS!! THEY WERE SO GOOD!!! ❤️

      Thanks Melissa! ❤️
